A GRAND Opening

Apache/Selections Grand Opening & Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration

On Indigenous Peoples Day, we proudly celebrated the grand opening of Apache/Selections, a new retail space dedicated to amplifying and supporting Indigenous-owned brands and creators. It was a day of community, culture, and gratitude, marking the beginning of a journey to provide an inclusive shopping experience that honors the artistry and innovative lens of Indigenous people.

Gratitude & Acknowledgements

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jake’s Home Improvement and Remodel for transforming our space into a beautiful and welcoming environment. Their hard work and dedication made it possible for us to open our doors and bring our vision to life. A special thank you to my parents and family for their unwavering support throughout this journey—your encouragement has been a driving force behind Apache/Selections.

The celebration was made even more memorable by the delicious charcuterie provided by Monteaux’s Smorgasbords, and the incredible photography captured by Jeff Burkhead of Backstory Photography, who skillfully documented the spirit of the day.

Honoring Our Vendors

We were delighted to showcase a range of talented Indigenous vendors who brought their unique creations to the event:

- Alyssa Wilson (Hoopa, Yurok, Comanche),  @20_Froggies_Designz, showcased stunning pieces utilizing her knowledge of abalone and pine nuts sourced from her homelands.

- Eileen John (Nisqually, Diné),  @eileenmadethat, presented a beautiful collection of accessories inspired by elements of her Diné roots.

- Iris Cliff (Chippewa, Assiniboine),  @irisncliff, brought an array of adorable enamel pins, prints, and stickers that we can’t get enough of.

- Melinda Williamson (Prairie Band Potawatomi), @MorningLightKombucha, shared her delicious and healthful kombucha blends.

- Mia Majel (Luiseño, Northern Cheyenne), founder of @Sungaal.co, displayed a range of scented candles in 100% recycled vessels, look out for her accessories this holiday season.

- Tokeya Waci U (Oglala Lakota, Hawliwa-Saponi) of @Coup_Count_Designz showcased his ledger art, which intertwines familiar cultural themes with imaginative depictions, such as Lord of the Rings imagery and quintessential family moments.

A Celebration of Community & Culture

One of the best parts of opening Apache/Selections has to be introducing my community to celebrated Indigenous-owned brands like GINEW, The NTVS, Red Rebel Alliance, Prados Beauty, Bedré Chocolate, and Standing Spruce Farms Apothecary. Each brand brings its own unique story and artistry to Apache/Selections, creating a diverse, vibrant marketplace.

We were especially thankful for the generosity of Ria Thundercloud, Ho-Chunk Nation and Sandia Pueblo, an author and dancer who signed each copy of her book, Finding My Dance, sharing her story of being a young Native and inspiring others to embrace their culture.

Inclusivity at the Heart of Apache/Selections

At Apache/Selections, inclusivity is at the core of everything we do. We proudly offer fashion styles ranging from S-3X in women's wear and up to 5X in select styles, ensuring that everyone can find something that resonates with their sense of style and cultural pride. Our mission is to continue cultivating an inclusive retail space where every visitor feels seen, valued, and celebrated.

Looking Forward

As we continue this journey, we are excited to host upcoming holiday markets and special shopping experiences. Stay tuned for more information about these events and discover even more unique Indigenous brands and creations. We hope to build a community space where Indigenous culture, creativity, and business thrive.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special celebration and grand opening. We look forward to continuing to support and uplift Indigenous voices and talent
